Because it's not:

. . .
Nor is it in the more pro-am NASA, etc.

Exactly. Not only that, but the Mustang was literally the only car produced in the United States with an SRA. I'm not saying that the SRA is junk because it's not at all, but a properly done IRS is superior.

I was referring to mustang chassis, SRA works better because the car was designed for SRA, cars that were built around a proper suspension including IRS are a whole different ball game. Until they revisit the entire suspension and start over its just like the 03/04 cobra thing all over again. An after thought IRS that was prone to failure. Besides, seems the SRA in the current mustang did pretty damn well against the M3...

Gotcha, makes sense. I think they are using a whole new chassis though?

Not if they stuffed the components in a S197 chassis, seems like they made it work with what they had, means someone with a wrecked '15 V6 can take the parts out and swap them into their 05-12 mustang. Which isnt a bad thing, just not necessarily the best thing. I'm all for the mustang getting an IRS, if the current suspension design is scrapped and they build the car for it, like finally getting a proper SLA front end with an accommodating IRS

The article talks about the panel gaps being off on the mule that was photographed which led them to assume that there is a new chassis underneath.

You also seem to be forgetting that the S197 was originally set up to have an irs. It was scrapped for cost reasons, but that leads me to believe that they may just be revisiting that original setup.
