Same thing basically, putting my old Vette engine in it. But that one is an original 67 Camaro numbers matching short block. And the block alone is worth more than I paid for the boat. Also, the motor is tired I can tell, so I'd rather put a fresher one in there so I don't get stuck on the water. I'm hopefully maybe selling it to a machine shop that will rebuild it and they will sell it for a profit.

What, with all those muscles you don't want to row your boat back to shore? Amy and I had an old 16ft boat with an outboard that was made in 1962. Every time we took it out it would break down in the middle of the lake and we'd have to row it back to shore. It sucked and was fun at the same time.

How much newer is your Vette engine?

The vette engine only has about 82K miles on it. But this one is tired I can tell, it complains when I crank it. Prob because the way it was set up before it never got to full operating temp. The water valve coming from the jet was fully open. I had to set it to allow the engine to get up to 180 degrees.

And the air filter was just a metal mesh. I think I'll ditch the scoop and run a real filter this time. Which reminds me, does anyone have a non-drop base 14" base for an air clear that they would want to trade for my drop base? Mine is the biggest drop base available, like 2.5" or something.

Also, I do have a set of oars under the rear seat for plan B.

That metal mesh is most likely the flame resistor which is required in a merine application. Can you post pictures of it?

Gay. It doesn't look like it works well as a filter at all.

Does it look something like this?

Ya, but really tiny. I'm just going to run a real filter and I'll keep the arrestor in the boat under the seat. If some dick head tries to keep me out of the launch area I'll throw it on.

It goes inside the air filter.

Hmm. I wonder if I can make it fit in there. What's the purpose of it though? To arrest flames? I seriously don't see my small block shooting fire at my face from the butterflys.

It's there incase of a back fire out of the carb. I believe it's required in marine applications.

My dad didn't run the one that came on his boat either when he built the 355 for it. However, he never got pulled over on the water. I kind of think it's like spark arrestors for dirt bikes. You're supposed to have one and if the pull you over and check you end up with a ticket. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

Nice. I really like the yellow spark plugs.

Just like the muffler law the turbos may be considered a arrestor too, we've been stopped plenty times with nothing about the arrestor. However we did get kicked out of puddlestone for doing 110

Ya I was too lazy to mask and remove stuff. So I razor bladed mating surfaces and used a 3M pad on the spark plug tips. I did do a nice job on the paint though. Cleaned the block off real nice, thanks to Ben, scuffed and primed it too.

Did I mention that I was thinking about turbo-charging this engine??? Or is that a coincidence that you are talking about turbos?

A street vehicle air cleaner is not required on a boat - no dust on the water. At least not yet. So just a flame arrestor is all that is needed, mostly to keep the bottle caps out of the intake. :)

When I had mine, 79 350vette with VP IO, it had some funky distributor on it. Normal GM distributors were not marine approved - DUH. Since marine parts are 4x as expensive as car parts we spent about a hours matching up the point, cond and cap to car numbers. Same $hit diff number and price. One thing that is a real good idea on a boat is a fuel filter.

Sand and salt are pretty common though. I'd prefer to keep the sand out.

Ha, my dad has the money, and apparently I have the great honor of doing the work for him.

Sexy...

I'm going to get it running this week probably. This boat is definitely a budget project. You wouldn't believe how little I have invested into it. So the turbos will come from pick your part. I'm hoping to get lucky and find two Mercedes diesel turbos. There was one last time I was there. I will remove the mufflers and send the water out the rear, separate from the exhaust, and port the exhaust from the water logs directly into each turbo, which will boost a carb pad (so I don't have to modify the carb or buy a bonnet. Carb pads are rare, so I might have to fab one.

I have a powerstroke turbo if you want it, needs a rebuild though.

L48 breathed fire after sitting for 6 years (literally, timing was way retarded how I had the dist in there at first and I had some craaazy backfires), took some coercion but runs like a champ in the boat! Just like it did when it took me to school everyday. Haha. How funny.

I don't think I'm going to boost this boat. I think I want to reupholster is myself this summer when I have time, sell it and buy a longer one with an open bow in the future, when I move and hopefully have room for it. It sucks only being able to take 5 people.
