So I *think* one or more of my injectors let loose. So I sent them to Injectors Plus to be rebuilt and figr'd while they were there to upsize them a lil: from 26 - 32. Ok that's not a little. The 26ers were always on kind of a high duty cycle on my H&C setup, so that's why I did it. Anyhow, I don't need a full tune right now, but I might (if I can't hook up with an old friend who seems to have vanished) need someone who can just update the parameters for the larger injectors. I'm NOT going to spend $500 on a mostly unnecessarry full tune.

Ryne at Cunningham MotorSports (http://www.cunningham-motorsports.com/) is the best LSX tuner in the area.

Steve at Powertrain Dynamics is great. He's $120 an hour but he hasn't ever taken longer than an hour with the Cobra. Oh, and you should fix your exhaust before you go get the tune.

Can't you guys just buy some cable to hook up the car to your laptop where the code reader plugs in? And software to do it yourself?

Yes, but the systems aren't particularly cheap and then you have to learn how to use them.

For the amount of money you guys spend on 'tunes' I find it hard to believe it wouldn't be almost cost effective to buy your own software. Think about how many people you could charge $100 here or $50 there to recoup your expense.

I guess I really just have a problem paying other people to do things for me. ...I even cut my own hair. I wonder what that says about my personality. I really think it goes beyond just being cheap.
Anyways, back to your motor. I really think you should throw on some thicker HGs, bigger rockers, and do whatever you need to do to your exhaust before you get it tuned again. Might aswell get it all done at once.
I can help you if you want to pull the heads this winter. I'm off from school mid Dec to mid Jan. And I don't think I'll be going back to work till next semester. I'm planning to pull the heads off the Vette this winter, just to make sure everything is copacetic. We can do it together and hold hands.

I have been looking into EFI Live for use on tuning my STS-V. The scan tool is $400 just to monitor and clear codes. If I want to be able to flash the PCM then the cost $800 with two licenses (tune two VIN numbers). If you want to flash more than 2 cars you will need to buy more licenses. HP tuners is a little cheaper, but it does not have the cam timing parameters for the STS-V and EFI has better support (according to people I have talked to that use both), but will work well with LSX engines.

Same boat/perspective. Would you entertaining going 50/50 or maybe we could do a MG group buy on a unit? Maybe Ron and a couple others would be interested. Just a thought. If I can hook up with th guy I bought the motor from, he said he would tweak the tune for the cost of the license, which was $100. That's cost effective.

I don't want to mess with tuning. I don't have enough understanding of how all the electronics work together to be able to properly tune my car and I don't what to risk blowing it up to learn. I'd rather pay Steve a $120 and have it right the first time.
My buddy Brendan (ronsfriend on here) has tuning software already that he used to tune his twin turbo GTO. However, he is a certified GM tech and he knows a whole lot more than I do. He got the software from the guy he bought the turbos from so it already had a base tune that was set up for the turbo. Brendan just spent time perfecting it which he still says he hasn't finished. However, being in Afghanistan for a year is putting a damper on that.

Does Steve travel with his tuning gear. I don't think I need to get on a dyno for just updating the parameters for new upsized injectors, but don't want to drive with them before tuning.
MMm, maybe I could just get another MAF for 32lbs and that'd solve the problem too I think. If there is such a thing.

No, he tunes on the dyno. You can email him though and tell him what you have and what you're going to do. I did that when I was building the Cobra and he told me what injectors, MAF and fuel pump to buy. We did the same with Eric's combo because we are going to take it to Steve once it's finished.
