Nova, can you give me a clear explanation of the difference between a roots type and a twin screw type blower? I know how a centrifugal works, but I'm unclear on the other two

a roots blower takes large volumes of air around and shoves it into an open area in the manifold. a twin screw blower meshes together and provides a boost at a higher rpm. Roots blowers are an older technology but are very reliable at providing power at all rpm levels.

May not be clear definitions but it is hard to describe in words.

The supercharger on the new ZR1 is a Roots/Twin Screw Hybrid

Not to plug another site Sean but if you check out http://auto.howstuffworks.com/supercharger2.htm then it does a pretty good job of describing what you want to know. I learned a lot years ago about engines and how they work from this site. The illustrations and animations were great for visualizing what they we describing and over the years they have only gotten better in quality.
