Default Big chain repair shops

Is it just me or does this seem odd.
I called Midas on Saturday to see what they would charge to replace my friends front brakes just so I could make sure I was not over charging her. They told me $436.00 (w/new rotors) does that not seem really high?? On top of that before asking me she had called Tire Pros and they quoted her $500.00 to $600.00.
I did the whole job for less then half what Midas tried to charge her.

What entailed replacing the front brakes? Rotors, pads, lines?

Nothing out of the norm just new pads and Rotors. They wanted $95.00 for each rotor...
I paid $35.00 each retail.

That sounds about right. Last time I got a quote on front brakes years ago it would have cost over $350 and that was like 4 years ago.

Shops have ass loads of overhead a guy in his driveway does not.

BTW, if you're anywhere near Covina, Ed's Auto Parts is the best little parts store I've ever been to bar none. The guys are all nice, knowledgeable, helpful, and charge reasonable to low prices on everything.

h/t to Shaolin for that one. Unfortunately for me Covina is too far to make it a regular stop. But if I had a shitload to buy, I'd certainly consider the drive.

I've sent him to Ed's many times

Ed's started in 1968 and were partnered with the guys at Pacific Engine, My dad went to middle school with all the guys there and they have always taken good care of us, prices and all. I dont even like doing side work on sundays cause i know in a pinch part need i'd have to go somewhere else.

If only others thought like that. I dont know how many times I tell people that and they always need to buy something and we end up driving to every parts store known to man to find them.
