Advanced Tech Oil Ques
Ok, so my diesel Jeep engine takes "Mobil 1 ESP 5w 30" And NO ONE sells the ESP blend locally, it's going to cost me about $135 to get enough for one oil change shipped here, not including the oil filter. (My engine takes 10 quarts)
ANYWAYS, I was on the mobil 1 website looking for vendors and I noticed that ESP stands for "Emission System Protection" in the description the oil is just specially formulated not to mess up the DPFs (diesel particulate filters), so my next logical question... If I cut the DPFs off and weld in a pipe, can I then run regular mobil 1 5w 30 safely???

Also, there are sensor tube leading to each DPF. If I cut the DPFs off, will it throw a code?

I called Mobil 1, not sure the "tech" I talked to really knew the answer. He said running normal mobil 1 5w 30 can destroy all of my emission components, then he asked if I had catalytic converters, which I'm pretty sure that I don't, then he said O2 sensors, which there might be leading to the DPF tubes, then he said the EGR. I don't see how diesel exhaust can ruin an EGR... I think he was just naming off emission components that he knew of. Then I asked if the engine would be protected internally with 5w 30, and he said you should be fine...
What do you guys think???

I took a ford deisel class last night. The instructor and the Ford book say any codes may result in a automatic 30% reduction in power. It will set a code. I forgot, what year is the Jeep ? Any diesel 1998 and up is subject to smog inspection now. This was a intro for the new 6.4 and 6.7 Ford.
They have sensors that watch back pressure before and after the DPF. If they do not match set parameters it will code out.

Gay.
It's an 07. I've gone through the smog check, it's just a visual inspection. I could have had the DPFs just gutted out, but if you think that will set off a code I guess I'll just pony up and buy the ESP oil.

Looks like I can save about $30 going with Amsoil. I've always been curious about Amsoil. Anyone know if their stuff is good?

Part of the visual is a OBD2 check. If it has codes or has had codes cleared and monitors not run, FAIL !

Do a forum search, somebody here is affiliated with Amsoil and can get it at a bit lower price. At least that's what I recall.
