Default Steam Locomotives

I don't know if we have any Choo choo train people here, but this may be cool to check out . My Dad is a huge train guy. When he talks about stream trains, his eyes glaze over. He said if I ever get a chance to see one running, do it ! We will have one runing through the OC this weekend. Here is a link with the info http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...tory?track=rss
I am going to try and and check it out at speed in the Laguna Niguel station on Camino Capistrano, not sure what time it wil be here, and at the Fullerton station about 3:30.

I will out of town and will miss it. My brother when he lived out in Moreno Valley joined the Riverside Live Steamers club. He built a Mikado steam engine and they used to have annual meets that club all across the US would attend and bring their model steam engines. Had many good times.

I live off the 5 and Crown Valley. I worked for a engineering company before my current job and heard a lot about trains form some of our rail engineers. We could meet at the train station and then grab bit to eat. Send me a Pm in you are interested and I will shoot you my cell.

I made it down to the Laguna Niguel station about 11:45. All the train guys said it it should be there at about noon. I waited there until 1:15 and had to run so I missed the flyby.
The Fullerton Station was cool. I thought this thing was big, and it was HUGE. The wheels alone are about 6ft tall. The exposed mechanical workings are amazing to watch.
I shot video of it pulling in, ran up to the front, and shot it pulling away.

And forgot my sunscreen , so my head is fried !

That was a remarkable era in human history and very important to the development of modern civilization. Considering the tooling they had available, those boys could get shi* done. Ever read any of the stories about how fast they laid track . . . . by hand? Unbelievable.
