Default Fontana Street Legal Drags Feb. 22, 2014 Roll Call

So who's going? I'm going to watch but not race since I don't have the Chevelle ready yet and don't want to race the Cobra.

I'm screwed. I have to finish the move to OC. Plus the vetted FUBAR.

I thought it was just a little milky oil and you were going to have them replace the bearings to be safe or something like that. FUBAR?

What time you thinking of going Ron? I probably can't make it, but if I know you're going at some specific time and it works out last minute, I might roll. Been a long time since I've been to street legals.

That is what is was. Then the motor came out. The heads and rotating assembly is fine the cam, bearings, and block are not. Look like the block hard a small crack that leaked the coolant into the oil. The bearings and the cam showed some wear. Getting a new LS3 block to rebuild the motor. They think the head studs were over torqued when they were installed in the motor and that was the cause of the crack. The cam bearings were broken up too which looked like a result of improper installation. Their were other signs of a rushed assembly. At least the super expensive parts made it through unscathed.

I agree. Didn't you pay some shop like $18k to build it?

I don't know what time I'll go out. If I remember correctly racing starts at 9am so I may go then depending on what time I wake up. I'm also going to see if Phil wants to go. He said a couple of guys from his work may take their cars so he might want to go.

Yeah it was huge. $15,500 for the motor and $2500 for a new clutch installed. There were some other issues too. I do know if you guys remember, but the first time I took that motor to the track I had to put it on the trailer because it started pissing oil. The oil pan was tight enough not to leak at normal temps, but at track temps the expansion was enough that it leaked oil. A lot of oil. My experience has been that shops tend to over exaggerate when critiquing g the work of other shops. So the rushed assembly is what The current shop is calling it. You guys may not remember, but I had that motor built at the vette doctors performance in Long Island New York. The motor was finished two weeks before I had to leave and I had always run the brake in tune because we ran out of time for the final tune due to the delay with the clutch. Oh well. This is why race cars a are expensive. It's getting rebuilt with a larger cam and some valve train upgrades. I'm buying a LS3 from from a junk and rebuilding it in my garage.

This put the supercharger for the mustang on hold. I was already frustrated about that because the communications with creations in chrome has been bad.

I went on Saturday for around 3 hours. The new sound wall is nice. It starts from the staging lanes and goes all the way to the finish line. It takes getting used to when watching from the stands with cars that have exhaust exiting out the rear. You watch the car go down to your right but the sound bounces off the wall so you hear it on your left.

I'm kind of glad I didn't have the Chevelle ready because the track was pretty slick. A lot of people were spinning all the way out to the 1/8. A new Mustang hit the wall about 1/8 because of it. Although he was a terrible driver. The good news is they were quick to get it cleaned up and the racing back up again. It only took about 25-30 minutes.

The only part I found disappointing was that the quickest car there was a McLaren MP4-C12. He ran a 10.68 at 132.
