My objection to Apple is their highly predatory approach to IP protection. They are (and have been) master patent trolls. I was seriously considering buying an iPhone 5 until their recent victory over Samsung. Now, they can lick my balls. I almost want to buy an S3 out of spite.
However, from a design and manufacturing POV, Apple is exceptional, and IMO deserves being considered visionary.
As for charging for customer support it's a crazy complex issue. If you want quality customer support, paying people who know WTF they're talking about, it's going to cost you, either in the product price or as a support price. Decoupling from the product price at least allows super users to reduce their total cost of ownership.

I used to be a pc, but now I'm an Apple. I caught it for a long time, but when my Toshiba laptop failed after a year Be my gf's macbook was going strong for years. I couldn't ignore the cost savings. I got an inactivity first to work on my racing videos. It is awesome. I'be had it for two years not. Single problem. I got my macbook pro in Feb. Works great all the time. I bought parrallel to run window and the MAC OS at the same time. The window seven struggle in comparison. The issue is that all gov websites are windows based and my traqmate software only works on windows. I will be switching to the iPhone 5 many just due to having everything else Apple.

Ben... c'mon. Like Bose Im willing to bet they dont sell anything without at least a 500% mark up. The iPhone av cable is over $100... unlike smaller companies, they dont have to pass the cost of customer support on to the consumer. They can just be minimally less greddy and swallow it.
Carlos Im surpirsed, we have 4 Toshibas in my family, all have been completely problem free. Two of them are 5 and 6 years old, and are still firing on all cylinders.

Were you running Norton anti-virus? Norton sucks. Back in early 2000s we used Norton on everything, and periodically got viruses. I use McAffee now, and have been since we got the first Toshiba, never a virus, ever. Knock on wood
