That all depends on the car. Some dealerships won't honor that if the car is a recent hot item. In my case, since I work for a Chevy dealer...we won't honor that for a Camaro Convertible, Volt or Cruze. With a HHR, Cobalt or Aveo...who different story lol
Most dealers do the opposite though...they add mark-ups!

Since it is based on what consumers are really paying at dealers, it should be a good basis for haggling. Of course, time changes things and demand can go up sharply, or supply down and equilibrium price points would naturally move upward (or vice versa downward accordingly).
Personally I'm not sure I'll ever buy a new car again for a variety of reasons, but if I did, I'll decide what I'm willing to pay out the door for X, write the check, call dealers until one says yes and that'll be that. Zero patience for the "let me talk to my manager" run around.

Haha. Yeah, if you want the best deals IMO...I would wait until the new year rolls around and we are trying to get rid of the old inventory.
We have several 2010 Corvette Grand Sport here that are around $10,000 off sticker compared to the 2011. $10,000 off is a huge impact on the montly payment. BUT, you pretty much have to buy what the dealer has left over.
I had a guy call me and ask for a silver 2010 Grand Sport but we don't have one. So he might settle with a white or black one cause he wants to save the $10k.
