But I do see your point, I was confused on what it was. You're saying that since there are 3 compression strokes for each revolution of the output shaft, that you need to count each one which would be 1.3L/2 x 3 (compression) x 2 rotors which is 3.9L
I can see that line of thinking. But it's sort of not fair, because you're using the back of the rotor and counting it as displacement while you'd never count the area behind a piston as displacement obviously. So there is more effective intake charge displacement while there is less actual displacement.

When you calculate the displacement of a regular motor you are assuming that all the cylinders are at bottom dead center at the same time. This is something that is not possible. I'm saying that there are 8 chambers in my car, each is ~ .75 Liters, assuming that they are all at .75L at the same time you get a 6.0L car.
Thus to be far in a RX-7 there are 2 lobes with three chambers for a total of 6 chamber. With a maximum displacement of 1.3 L each it (by the historical standard) is a 7.8L motor.

Two rotors, so each moves 1.3L/2 with one induction stroke.
So each chamber is 3.9L/2 total, while the motor is 3.9L total.

Honestly the best thing about those motors are:
1) With all that exhaust energy they can spin anything. I mean they can spin a turbo off idle like a v8.
2) Only Japanese manufacturer to win LeMans.

The guy who bought our 13B is adapting them for light plane use. In addition to their packaging and smoothness advantages, apparently they just don't fail in the durability testing they use for determining reliability in aircraft usage.
