In fact, we may never see a production (larger scale) 427ci engine ever again. The real break through in the future (maybe) is when some of the nanoscale materials allow us to make cars profoundly lighter. Then we could have relatively tiny forced induction motors that would perform similar or even better than our current cars. We'll see. But we're almost certainly at the peak of the performance envelope with current technology and regulations. And honestly, it's getting close to the kind of stupid for a street car territory anyway. Maybe they'll start focusing other refinements and improvements.
