So what happened to the abundance of $200-300 complete engines that there were when we decided on a fox that didn't have a motor? I really don't mean to be that dick, and I know that we have tons of time to wait, and eventually one will turn up, but per the rules, I don't see this car turning into a Lemons legal car. Unless someone finds a $700 bill taped to the underside of the dash, I don't see any way of selling the interior parts for enough $ to come in anywhere near the $500 limit.
At this point, I am hoping that Crane is correct in his optimism about finding a good cheap motor.

Well thats great but how about using craigslist and searching for an engine before opening your mouth. For the record ive found 3 complete running engines today for $300, a complete short block for $125 and an ls1 for $800(thats for me though) obviously i dont pay what people what list and am waiting to hear back on my offers. I know what the worth of parts are, quite well and if i didnt think it was possible i wouldnt have mentioned the fox.

Likewise, what about source for trans and axle?

The trans should be fine, axle is probably best from the yard as well.

The trans from a 2.3 will handle up to 270WHP on sticky tires? Mmmm, really? I understand that it's a T5, but I thought it was substantially downgraded.

The guy with the FI F150 engine PM'd me back and said he still had it. I'm trying to get a number to call him at to find out more about it but the add he posted said it was a complete engine.

I will yield all expertise on all things fox to you and any who claim to know what they are talking about. My usefulness will hopefully start showing itself around the time the car starts getting built, and strategizing for the race begins. I have been mostly absent from the finding process because I don't know sh*t about what fox parts are worth, and several people on here claimed to be experts. So far it seems that most seem to know what they are talking about, and a few don't really.
I was just pointing out that the stated "facts" went from we will easily get a $300 motor to everyone claiming that there would be nothing short of $700-1000. I was simply asking where all f the cheap motors went, and that without the promised $300 motor, we were not going to come in on budget.
However, I am developing more faith in what Crane says than most others, so if he says he'll find a $300 motor, then he'll find one.
Oh and $800 for any LS1 that is anything near complete is an amazing find.

I haven't dug through through the thread, but I'm pretty sure that it was only me who referenced the $1k motor, specifically related to LKQ Corp. as a wrecker different from Pick a Part etc.

If it wasn't for him and Ron as the domain experts on the car (and those willing to contribute additional scratch) no way I'd even entertain this project.
