Yeah if you started riding on something big, the class is kinda just an easy way to get your license w/o the dmv test-and the dmv test is tough on a heavy bike so its almost worth it if the bike you own is bigger than 500cc.
Learning on an r1...yikes...i hope the owner was a really good friend, or you're really strong with long legs because everyone drops the clutch too fast the first time (if you were a kid when you started anyway haha) when i started learning at 15 or 16 it was a honda shadow, and quickly moved to a intruder 1500 (dad upgraded) and it was def an adventure...an R1/6 would probably have killed me hahaha. I'm sorry if i sounded condescending above, it wasn't intended to be.
