It's about 12.4:1. In other words, a set of their new pistons and rings cost about = $86.80. But check out the labor costs, $71.30 in today's $ for overhauling a rear axle. You can speculate as to why . . .
Household income now averages about $50k, I couldn't find good figures, but I infer in 1928 it was just below $10k. Yes, only about a 5:1 difference. In otherwords very roughly a 2:1 difference in real income. between then and now. But that's only using these very gross figures, it's a bit more complicated, but in principle, from what was available, the average guy got more in the way of labor for sure for his dollar.
