It's incredible how big cars are now compared to back in the day. Check it out:

Old Mustang vs. New

Old Challenger vs. New

Old Camaro vs. New

Some of this looks like it might be an optical contusion (as my brother is fond of saying). How abut some cold hard numbers, both absolute and in ratio form. In other words, wheel base, length, track, width, height, interior space (cubic feet), etc. We know weight is on the whole much higher, but that's mostly to do with safety features. But I suspect these cars may "feel" larger than they are relative to their ancestors.

For example, look at the length, belt line and roof line:

Look at the hood height a roof height:

My guess is that these cars really aren't all that larger in their "foot print" or "box" of space they consume, but they fill that box in a more puffed up way. Giving the appearance of being even larger than they are. Just a hypothesis.

From the specs it appears to be no optical illusion - the new car is dimensionally bigger in basically every way.

3780 lbs? HA! Guess all that talk from the Camaro fanbois about 3400 lbs was just as ridiculous as i thought. Cmon 3400lb '11 GT with the 5.0 DOHC
