Default Machine Shop

Ok guys, I'm going to start building my new "REAL" engine. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a GOOD machine shop here or close to Huntington Beach?

Here's what I have to work with:

A stock bore 400 4 bolt block.
A stock bore L82 4 bolt 350 block high tin and nickel block with high nickel main caps.
A two bolt .030 454 block ( possible 496 ) with NO heads.

This will be the REAL engine. I will do everything correctly.

It will be faster than BEN and SEAN's vehicles.

Depending on what I build- the SB will have AFR heads. The Big Block would have China heads.

Possible cubic inches:
SB
377--this is what I'm leaning towards
406--this would be the cheapest
415
427
434

BB
496-this is if I go Street Rat crazy

First I need a GOOD machine shop here close to me.

No, I don't do 383's. That is a poor bore and stoke combo. Also the main bores are TOO SMALL for a 3.75 crank.

To make REAL "NA" horse power you need at least a 4.125 bore.

If I do use the 4.00 inch bore block I'd probably build a 302 or 327 to take advantage of the small 4 inch bore.

I know Santa Ana Speed has a machine shop but I don't know how good they are. They machined a 22R head for my Toyota truck once and did a good job. I had my work done for the 454 at Speed-O-Motive and would recommend them but they are not close to Huntington Beach. However, they do great work.

Is this just going to be a cruiser or are you actually going to race the Vette? I like the 377 too. I'd stick with the one of the small blocks in the Vette.

I know a guy in Mission Viejo. He will absolutely do the job right, but he takes forever.

HP numbers are good and all, but they are like asking someone how much they can bench. What difference does it make if I can still kick your ass?

Yes Speed-O-Motive is a great shop. Used them and Engine Dynamics for 15 years.

I want (sound like a woman here) a shop close. So I can double check EVERYTHING they do.

I know of a good head shop in GG--Flow Tech.

But I'm going with NEW heads.

If I go back to racing the bitch, I'm going to have to do something with the diff. That 8.2 isn't worth a shit for over 450 hp.

I have 8.8 FORD IRS sitting on Darlene's drive way.

Any of the SBs I build will be over 500 hp and close to or over 500 ft lbs.

The Big Block 496 would be over 600hp EASY.

They're shop is full service. I've bought various stuff my LS there. They have their own Ford and Chevy high nickel blocks, etc. They'll be doing the balancing and cutting on RX-Snake, and I'll use them when the time comes to build up my LS motor . . . to put you in your place.
