Some clutch stuff in there too.

Pontiac Engine Books.

I used to build Pontiac engines and these two books are right on.

PONTIAC MUSCLCAR PERFORMANCE 1955 - 1979
PETE McCARTHY

HOW TO BUILD MAX-PERFOMANCE PONTIAC V-8s
JIM HAND
Just about anything from Jim Hand will be correct. The guy knows his Pontiac shit. I agree with MOST of what he says EXCEPT for cams. I think he is shy but safe about cams.
He does a test of exhaust and mufflers that EVERYONE should read.

Here's a good one for you History buffs.

MUSCLE CAR CONFIDENTIAL

Confessions of a Muscle Car Test Driver.

By Joe Oldham.

Since I grew up during this time I know this guys work. VERY GOOD reading and good original pictures.

Starts in early Sixites and goes from there. He actually owned one of the first 69 Baldwin-Motion Camaros. He has test driven just about EVERY Hiperf car of that time and tells you about each one from his original notes and articles.

Here's a quote from his book about a 69 440 Barracuda: "This car was built for one thing--to satisfy NHRA Drag Racing rules. This was, simiply put, a STUPID car. IT was an evil handler, and could hardly steer or stop. No wonder Chrysler Corporation built only 360 of them in 69. But it was never really meant to be driven on the street. No, this monstrosity was designed and built for one very specific purpose--to win straight line NHRA drag races. AND if it took out some GM and FORD guys at a stoplight, all well and good."

According to him: "The 69 440 was one of the nastiest muscle cars ever to find its way onto the streets of America." "..............there weren't many other muscle cars around that could touch you ----as long as you were going in a straight line".

Great stuff!!!!!

"You people"-People with the new fangled 'puter cars, that go fast and stop great. NOT to mention the good handling and gas () milage.

My "current engine" is built to late 60s race specs. It does OK.

No Vettes in Joe's Book.

69 Roadrunner/GTX Hemi;

"....I learned that a Street Hemi could run with the best high-performance muscle cars of the day in stock condition. Hey, a 13.32/107.65 pass with closed exhaust and street tires was running. No question about that. So I would have to stop complaining in print about 426 street Hemi Mopars."

".........and it does take tuning unlike some of the GM and FORD muscle cars of the day, which would just flat out run well right out of the box."

69 Ram Air IV Firebird:

" It was a true multipurpose car that you could drive to work on Firday, street race on Saturday night and win the at the drags on Sunday. To this day, it's one of the fondest memories I have."
