55 is not magic, as I've said all along, for MOST vehicles it's better than higher speeds. Are we letting this go, or what?

Okay, since I'm the only one who has currently tested this I'll put in my 2 cents. In my Cobra which has 220 degrees duration at .050 I can cruise at 55 in 6th (.62) without lugging my engine. However, I pull less vacuum cruising at 55 than I do at 60.

When I ran my tests I pulled 27.202 mpg at 60mph and only 22.218 mpg at 55mph. However, I drove the same route but in different directions at the different speeds so my test is only half way done.

I will be driving the same route this Thursday so I will reverse my speeds so I have an acurate reading for both speeds in both directions. Also, the total miles driven were 131 miles.

And final, my car is also not typical. It's a '94 Cobra with a Votech blown 302 that made 433rwhp. I built the engine myself but had the tune done by Steve at Powertrain Dynamics.

So I finished testing the second half today. Today at 55mph I pulled 25.844mpg and at 60mph I got 28.333mpg. So my car definitely gets better gas millage at 60 then it does at 55.

Next time I go out to the same customer I will drive both directions at 65 and report the numbers.

Interesting. What is the 5th gear ratio for your transmission, and what is your rearend gearing?

An 80mph MPG test would be interesting. Hint-hint.

I know for a fact that I won't do as well at 80. I have a customer out in Phoenix and I recorded my mpg out to Blythe. I was doing 75mph the whole way there and only got a little over 21mpg.

Sean, I replaced my T5 with a T56 after breaking the T5 twice. The T56 has a .62 6th and I have 3.55 gears and 245/45/17 tires. At 60mph I'm turning right near 1800rpms.
