It's a 400SBC, it doesn't need 4K rpm to roast tires! What's wrong with it? Still the trans vibration?

Here's the deal:
First the vibration is possibly from the engine not the drive line. I chained the engine down and got rid of most the vibration. This is telling me it's an alingment or balance problem.
During the run the damn thing would start to miss at 4200 and feel like it hit a rev limiter at 4500. Of course I don't have one. After I followed Ben back from Dennys as soon as I hit the 55 FWY it started to miss lower in the power band.
I parked it and haven't look at it yet. Damn Chevies.
I can get into the T-bird and it runs great. Good FORDS!!!!

Yea, but this engine is built to rev to 7,200 rpm. Damn Chevies!!!!
I beleive the engine isn't balanced correctly. I told them to over balance it and I think they did it backwards.

What's "over balanced"? BTW, how much gas did you use, quarter stick?

Forgive me for asking if this is a stupid question, but I'm assuming that since you had your 400 balanced, you're using an internally balanced damper. Would you be able to use an externally balanced damper, and... balance it to fix the vibration? Or even grind on the back of your flywheel and balance it that way?

Over Balance-- as your revs increase the pistion weight goes up ( mass and movement ) more weight = over balance. Remember this engine is built to go to 7,200 rpm. Well, at least that was the thought.
Remember, you can not balance an engine for all rpms.
Next engine--next year--will either be a 377 - 396 - 400 - 427 sbc or a 496 BB. I have the blocks for any of these. I'm actually leaning toward the 377. Super Charging is a possiblty also. AFR heads will be part of the plan also.
Gas used is still in question. I will dip it later.

Stick to pump gas. Having to run on race fuel is a pain especially when you only get single digit mpg. I have to run a minimum 100 octane in the Chevelle so long cruises like we did last week are out of the question.

This current engine is a MULE. I'm testing a few new combos at once. It is an externally balance 400. You gave me something new to think about -I know stand back-when this current engine was balanced it was balance with another flywheel. I but a new Mcloud flywheel in at the last minute that was suppost to be the same balance as factory 400.
