Couple things.
1. If you put obo, there is no such thing is lowballing. My best offer might be different then the sellers.
2. If the price says firm on CL it really means its obo they just dont know how to deal with people who offer less.
3. It's not lowballing if they say yes.

You're absolutely correct. But most people call offering <=50% of the asking price low-balling as a matter of language.

I'm looking for land and when I find one some with the right parameters and lagnuage in the offer, I'll be offering 50% or so. I know piece I was really interested was asking $20k (5 acres in apple valley, not even way out in the sticks or anything), but it was a little out of my range for what I was looking for. I watched and it sold for $10k.

Meh, people make up these "rules" for certain things. I'm already and asshole, so what do I care if it's in one more place because I "comprehend" things different, just makes me an asshole with a smaller bottom line
