Default A moment of silence for Patrick Swayze

The cancer finally got him. Sad stuff.

He fought a noble fight and lived as he could and as he wished until the end. It will be one of the greatest days in human history when we finally stomp this crap out. So many great people cut way too short.

I agree. I think we'll beat most forms of cancer within my lifetime though

There's a good chance. From breast cancer to Leukemia, there have been some amazing strides in recent years. Hopefully we don't demagogue or otherwise defuel pharmaceutical innovation too much.

Well, by most measures, quality of life standard of living, life expectancy, hunger, etc., it's mostly better now than ever before. We've done a pretty good job of cleaning up the air, especially here in CA, etc. But cancer has always existed, it kills animals in the wild. Of course some rates are higher because people simply live longer, simply a probability thing. It's hard to get prostate cancer when you take a pole-axe in the head at 23.

Two things.

1 - As you suffer through endless references to "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost" (perfectly lovely movies), I'd like to remind the reader that one of the great early movies in his career was "Red Dawn."

2 - I just learned a remake of "Red Dawn" is in production.
