Whatdya expect, a
Nissan Leaf? Nope, the National Off Road Racing Association's (NORRA) General Tire Mexican 1000 off-road rally, which starts this weekend, will feature its first-ever all-electric vehicle, and judging by what we see above, it certainly looks the part.
SRI EV1, built by SRI, SRD and EV West, is an open-wheeled monster that delivers 535 horsepower and houses enough battery power to supply a typical American home. For a week.
Concessions needed to be made to accommodate the electric racer, since as the SR1 doesn't have battery packs big enough to tackle all of the 1,200-plus mile race. The plan is to complete all three of the Special Stages on the first day and then run in portions of the distance on the ensuing three days depending on how the pack fares (there are no
