Default ACH run

Sounds good, maybe some time a Napa run would be fun it can be made in 10 hours one direction. Stay a night, taste a bit, buy some, get some and then back home in any direction inland or coastal, it’s all good.

Now that sounds pretty awesome, but would take a little planning.

Done that run. It takes a LOT longer and someone ALWAYS breaks down. But, it is pretty. Went HWY 1 up and 5 down.

Made the 5 south run in 6 1/2 hours--Ready ---in a 68 Ford Station Wagon. It had a built 390 and would run over a 120 mph. Surprised a lot of "group" runners when I'd pull up next to (like a Porsche) a driver doing over 120.

Unfortunately it has the aero dynamics of a brick.

When you travel in a large group generally takes twice as long as you think.

^^
I was thinking of just that as a trip last fall. That would be cool. We can make it a whole weekend thing, maybe get a group rate at a hotel. Deffinately an idea.

A note on the route suggested, the road up 39 is closed a few miles before you get to ACH, has been for years.
This highway information is the latest reported as of Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 22:55 .

SR 39
[IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED FROM 6.5 MI SOUTH OF THE COLDBROOK RANGER STATION TO ISLIP SADDLE
(LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO STORM DAMAGE - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE
AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

the only ways onto ACH from this side of the mountain are through La Canada or Wrightwood. Having said that I am always down for any driving in that area, GMR, ACH, hwy39 even sand canyon(farther west) are all great roads that I drive whenever I have some free time. Also ACH is closed due to mud slides, not just snow, might take them a while longer to clean it up
SR 2
[IN THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA AREA]
IS CLOSED FROM 2 MI EAST OF THE EAST JCT OF I 210 TO 14 MI EAST OF
LA CANADA (LOS ANGELES CO) - DUE TO STORM DAMAGE REPAIR - MOTORISTS ARE
ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

IS CLOSED FROM ISLIP SADDLE TO 5 MI WEST OF BIG PINES (LOS ANGELES CO)
- FOR THE WINTER - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

I hate to be a party pooper, these are some of the best roads in SoCal
