The 2013 Subaru BRZ is "one of the most rewarding cars we've ever driven" says Edmunds after subjecting the new coupe to some track time. This, despite having a 0-60 time that rivals that of some minivans – 7.3 seconds. Inside Line says those numbers are mostly due to an overactive rev limiter that forces a third-gear shift at 59.2 mph. We bet that's an early tuner fix. Also likely to be improved with an aftermarket reflash is the 15.3-second quarter-mile time.

For reference Motortrend ran this to a 7.1 0-60 and a 15.4-second quarter mile:

It's about the driving feel and how much speed can be maintained through corners, etc. The mark is an MX-5. Here's what an MX-5 does (still the best handling car I've driven.)

2009 Mazda MX-5 Miata Grand Touring 0-60 mph 6.8 Quarter Mile 15.1

I'd gladly take you up on it! Though it's sorta hard to compare a V8 race car to a dd I4 road car.

Its "technically" a street car. It has "full" interior and will pass sedan series rules, as well as SM rule book.

But yes, in all account as far as my garage goes, its a race car. Just a damn sexy race car

Would you drive it 50 miles a day in traffic? The MX-5 is a pussy cat, reasonably comfortable, great gas mileage, A/C, stereo, etc. AND it's a hoot to drive on curvy roads. Even the sensation of acceleration from 0 is decent because its small and low. I could make a comparison for handling in absolute terms (or my perception of it), but the categories don't match at all. This Scion and MX-5 are appropriately comparable.

I've driven it all the way to ortega, in bumper to bumper traffic with a bad knee, to knotts, etc.

Car did an 8.7 in the 1/8th with the stock engine, I can only dream at this point what 500rwhp will do

While I see your point, I can't imagine having that much fun in a 15.3 second car. A C5 Z06 has 2x the horsepower, weighs only 200lbs more, and gets only 3mpg city and 2mpg highway less. Not an exact comparison of course, it's a 2 seater vs. a 2+2, but still you see the point. The C5Z would cost less too...

Personally, I'd take the MX-5 (which is much lighter) over the Scion, and a used C5Z over either for a weekend warrior. The thing I'm getting a little tired of with Vettes is that they're not so hot for tight city driving; a reason I keep coming back to day dreaming about Turbo Porsches. Smaller foot print, best in class visibility, reasonable mileage and comfort, all weather, staggering acceleration off the line, etc. Obviously used vs. used is more in the C6Z+ range, and modding/upkeep is more money too. I also don't particularly care for the way they sound, but I could see me in one some day.

Porsche engines are pieces of shit though, 100k and they're toast, almost literally. When i was looking at play vehicles before the 08 high mileage carreras and turbp 911's were super cheap, and for good reason, the block would go south and you cant rebuild them.

C5Z all the way. Honestly i've been dreaming about diesel jettas. Knew a dude who had a 300hp 500rwtq one. Thing has an absolute monster sleeper. Got 3xmpg and in that small car would surprise lots of sports cars in it. Never got to see it run at the track though.
