Darlene rented an HHR from Avis for two weeks to drive to her new job. Hell, it was only $129.00 a week.


She just loves that vehicle. I drove it and it really surprised me on comfort and drivablity.


So guys what do you know of these HHRs???

Good or bad.

I think they're okay for a daily driver. I know the HHR SS has that 2.0L DI Turbo Motor so that could be fun.

The only problem for me is that they're a little pricey new:

I'm sure right now you could get it for a lot under MSRP, it's just you could also get a lightly used (sub 15k miles) Pontiac G8 with the 361hp and still under warranty for between 18.5k and 20k right now too... I think it would depend a lot on what you were looking for out of a car

Ok, here it comes..............."we" liked the idea of being able to fold the rear seats down and "sleep" in the back. Yes, we did dicuss this.

No, that makes sense, having some room to "stretch out" is nice

If you're looking for a vehicle in that range that isn't a minivan, I would look at the current Scion xB, the Honda Element, and of course the HHR.

It's too bad FORD doesn't build a vehicle like the HHR.

The Ford Flex is kind of like it, only it costs like 10k more because it's bigger and upscale versus the HHR. It's more of a direct competitor with the GMC Acadia and the Chevrolet Traverse I'd say.

I'd rather have a FORD. But, there is no HHR type in the same price range. PRICE is going to be a factor. May try used. We'll see what we find at the Chevy dealers tonight.


I used to go with people to help them buy new vehicles. The fun I had with the sales people is priceless. I helped Darlene's brother in law buy a Toyota Pickup. Lets say he was "shocked" at how I treated the salesman.

I actually look forward to taking on the sales people. My farvorite is when they try and double team me with the sales manager. I used to be a Used Car salesman in the early 70's. They get the full treatment when they do that.

I rented a few HHRs , I don't care for the dash and the instruments but other than that it's an awesome little car, great design.
If you prefer Ford, go and rent or test drive a Ford Escape. It's a lot bigger than the HHR but does not handle like a SUV at all, it feels/handles like a car.
