oil leak
I had to stop my last event for a smokey oil leak. I put the car on a lift today and the starter and lower passenger side of the motor transmission had oil on it. I tightened down the pan, but I don't think that was it. Oil was higher on the side of the starter too. I check the oil sensing unit with a inspection mirror and the valve cover are spotless. Any ideas?

I'm trying to remember where everything is. Check dipstick, filler neck, valve cover?

I checked the dipstick and valve cover and they are spotless. The fillerneck is on the other side and clean too. I think its the seal between the aft portion of the oil pan and the block itself.

The oil pan gasket wouldn't be so bad. When I first read this I somehow imagined the rear main seal. . .

Once pans start leaking there is usually no stopping it.

I don't know if this is what you meant, but it made me think of something. The Vette pan is cast aluminum. It may be seeping through a small, basically invisible crack in the pan.
