Default T5/ T45 Mustang Short Shifter

Thinking about buying a Chinese short shifter for my brother for Christmas. Yes I know the Pro 5.0s are the sh*t, but no I'm not going to spend another $200. I can pick one of these up for $40 or $50, they claim to shorten the throw by about 50%. So yeah, are they crap? Should I stay away?

I'd like to get more experience and less opinion if possible. Also, how quickly can I pull up the center console in this car?

I have the McLeod Slik Stix and it's great. This looks like a knock off pretty much. The billet parts are probably pretty much the same, BUT they might have cheaped out on the springs or some other aspect of the centering mechanism, which is awfully important. Have you checked ebay and ls1tech for Pro5s?

I need to check before I pick one up anyways, the shifter doesn't return to center by itself from the 1st and 2nd side. So I suspect it may be a short throw seeing as how the spring fell out.

It certainly doesn't feel like a short throw to me. But I'm spoiled. If you've ever felt my Pro 5.0 with the 1.5" stick, you'd understand. Anyways, we'll see tomorrow.

I've got the Slik Stix, which I think is at least as cool the Pro5 with Lou's Short Stick shifter handle. It centers very quickly and guides 2-3 awesome. In fact if you push to the right very much at all 2-3 you can end up in 5th.

Here's a pic of the two side by side. The Pro 5 is really unecessarily bulky IMO. Also the McLeod uses a special kind of washer as the "spring" (can't remmber the name) that has a very smooth feel. The Pro5 is certainly cool though. I think Leedom put one in his Mach 1, so he could tell you more about it and how much time it took to do on a Ford.

Mine is a Steeda Shifter and I like it. If you are not pushing left on the 1-2 shifts you can easily end up in 4th as my GF has done many a time. Good return to center. Took about 45 min to install. I am sure your brothers center console is pretty mush the same as mine. The install would be a piece of cake for you.

As for the one you want to buy for your bro. I really do not like the 2 piece shift lever.

I still have my stock shifter in the Cobra but I have taken it apart quite a few times. It only takes a minute to remove it and your brothers should be the same.
