Recommend a polisher.
I'm looking to buy a polisher for Christmas. I've narrowed it down to the Porter Cable UDM or the Meguiars G110v2. Does anyone have any experience of recommendations?

I don't have experience with these units, but I've yet to own or see a bad Porter Cable tool.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus - historically Porter Cable's have been more reliable than the Meguiars units. I strongly leaning towards the PC.

You of all people should not own a polisher. Unless you plan to use it for wax only.

I have a Milwaukie I bout 30 years ago. The MAIN thing when buying a polisher is speed. NEVER buy anything that excedes 1,000 RPM. If it is, it's a GRINDER in sheeps clothing. I never run over 700 RPM or so.
IF your just doing one car, I'll loan it to you. I have a 50/50 "cutting pad", and a 100% wool "buffing pad."

You mean, polishing off your clear coat because you're OCD about your paint job and you'll go too far and cry to me afterwards and ask why your paint looks more dull?

Think about it this way, common sand papers used by pros in order from rough to fine.
80 120 220 320 400 600 800 1000 1500 2000 Polishing Compound
Yes, it's an abrasive. Yes, it sands down your clear coat. Yes, if you run the buffer over a corner you can quickly sand off all of the clear coat.

I'm not actually getting a buffer - I'm getting a dual action polisher. After looking around the detailing forums they're very safe. It would be difficult to really screw things up too bad (although I might be up to the task).
