Default LS1Z28, need help picking an IROC

I need to find a Camaro (85-92). Has to be a V8, has to be a standard trans. Looking for a reliable performer, not a show car. Are there any years to stay away from? I sort of remember some years having a 305 V8 and the rest having the 350. Can you not get the manual trans with the 350 engine? Were they all TBI?

Thanks!

I see that in 90 they went from the MAF to a speed density system. Was it a significant improvement? Was it standard eqip or an option?

Wow, I don't know that I can be that picky. Just did a search on autotrader within 200 miles for a V8 5speed (88-92) within 200 miles, no matches. There is one within 500 miles, and it's 333 miles away.

Do you want a running one? My dad has an 84 L98 Z28. It's very rough and doesn't have the engine but I think he was trying to sell it for only $1000. It's a 5sp and has 3.73 gears. It was originally carburated with a 305 that was rated at 195hp (top dog in 84).

You could only get the 350 with an auto, all 5 speeds had the 305. I think the highest horsepower rating for the 350 was 245 and 225 for the 305 but I could be wrong.

It's for my brother.

He doesn't know jack about cars, and I don't feel like dropping in a motor for free, so I think I'll pass. Thanks though.

Sucks about the 350 only coming with an auto. Why do auto makers feels the need to do that sh*t?

90-92 all the tpi's were speed density. The tpi's were changed every couple of years 85-86 are the same in 87 the intake bolt pattern was changed in 89 the cold start injector was removed and in 90 they went to speed density. 1990 was the last year for the IROC and the year they started Gluing and welding the rear body panels to make the car stiffer and quieter. The 350 was automatic only and the 305 was auto or manual. The 350 was hard top only so if you want t-tops you will have to get a 305. You can check out
www.thirdgen.org they have a lot of info on there and some are selling their cars.

I found mine local in the autotrader. There are some on ebay but I would search only the ones that are local.

This is what it looked like the day I brought it home.I paid $3400.00 for it.
