If we get an already striped car then we wont be able to sell anything from it. so we are stuck with the price.

Just my 2 cents
exactly

BTW, haven't read the rules in detail, but where does it say sale of take offs reduces original purchase price?

Its not about purchase price but total money invested in the car and if you sell stuff thats negative money invested

Code:
4.1: Total Investment in Vehicle Can Not Exceed $500: Except for items described in
Rules 4.2 and 4.3, the total spent to purchase and prepare any car may not exceed $500.

4.1.1: Lame-Ass Rationalizations: Cars that "should be" worth $500 don't count; cars that
"were worth $500" before you spent another $2000 to fix them don't count; cars you've
owned for 20 years and spent more than $500 on during that time don't count; "it would
have been worth $500 if it didn't already have a cage" doesn't count. Five hundred dollars
means five hundred frickin' dollars.

Here's a better one

4.7: Scavenger Sales: If you sell pieces off of your car, the money that comes back in can be used to offset the initial purchase price. Just be prepared to convince some exceedingly skeptical judges of the validity of all those transactions.

Which brings up an even more interesting point. You could potentially buy a car worth much more than we are allowed to, but it it has sought after parts, then we could potentially sell them for more than our initial investment. FWIW, Miata hard tops are worth $800-1000, their torsen LSD's are easily $500-700, and soft tops can normally bring in at least $100. Plus stock brakes would be more than sufficient with race pads.

Just saying. Don't count out a $1500 Miata if it has a good Hardtop, especially if it has a Torsen.

I am sure that there are other cars which have similar situations where certain parts are very valuable, but the average Joe selling the car wouldn't realize what he has.

Looks to have sellable items. Full interior that looks to be in ok shape. Good suspension geometry.

True, but rare and expensive parts also mean that the parts that we sell could potentially have more value too. I am not saying that we should pick a car that no one has experience with, but we should consider more than just one type of car. At least until we have a car.
