Just saying. Don't count out a $1500 Miata if it has a good Hardtop, especially if it has a Torsen.
I am sure that there are other cars which have similar situations where certain parts are very valuable, but the average Joe selling the car wouldn't realize what he has.

From rule book.
2.1: Vehicle Eligibility :Vehicles must be acquired and prepared for a maximum of $500 as described in Section 4.
Remember, if they think we spent more, they WILL penalize us laps for every $10 over, they THINK we spent. And they can purchase it for $500 and crush our car if they so choose if they THINK we went to far over.

True, but note:
4.7: Scavenger Sales: If you sell pieces off of your car, the money that comes back in can be used to offset the initial purchase price. Just be prepared to convince some exceedingly skeptical judges of the validity of all those transactions.
For example, if you buy at $1,000 and sell $500, you're ok. However, thorough documentation will be required.
My preference would be to go as far below $500 as possible and scavenge parts from wherever (i.e., Guy and Ron) and fabricate, rather than buying a more expensive car and bringing it down by attempting to sell. It's risky, time consuming, and the judges may not buy it all. But it's certainly not out of the question if we simply cannot find a good candiate. They really probably should up the purchase price limit. When this race started years ago there still were lots of junkers around, but between cash for clunkers and cars for causes, the pool of decent super cheap cars, has really really dwindled.

Its not like we spun a wheel and landed on the Fox. Its actually a great choice considering everyones experience with domestics, the fox4 chassis and the availability of parts for free, and near free. I have 2700 into a 500rwhp fox that needs about 1k in stuff to complete it, think of what i can do without fancy parts and working on a car i wont care about. Ive got all 3 of my foxes for under $500 and the last one for free, im not against other cars, what i am against is hunting down potentially rare and expensive parts when Ron, myself and many other mustang member have parts laying around ready to be thrown away.
Ron has seen my shit hole of a work bench, he'll explain that i need some room and the amount of parts just sitting there.

That is exactly why the judges HATE them ! Everybody has Mustang cars and parts lying around. It will be all about our theme. The Ca races tend to sell out more than most, from the reading I've been doing on thier forums.
(untill 1am last night, zzzzzzz. and now at work!)

It's visionary. Add to the theme thread. Because it came earlier in time to starting the theme thread, if I move it, it'll bump the OP; kind of a pain.
