The only comparisons that really ever made much sense to me for understanding root value is showroom floor to showroom floor, same track, same weather, best drivers (or same pro) for each. After that it enters la la land pretty quick where anyone can make whatever case they want with enough time and money. That's why for the 2012 GT-R vs. Vette the Hot Laps at Laguna Seca are quite telling where the car's stock performance envelopes are and the Z is pretty far ahead at a non-trivial 2 seconds/lap. However, roll up to your local street legals, and the average amateur in a GT-R is going to beat the average Vette the majority of the time I'd bet.

The racing I like is either spec, where the cars are virtually identical and over the course of a season you can honesty have a good idea of who the better team is (human element) because you've largely controlled for hardware. On the other end, and there isn't any of it any more, is profile spec racing, which says it just has to be within a certain footprint but otherwise you can do ANYTHING. That only lasted a couple years because Porsche prison raped everyone else.

The Finns have a fun ralley concept for working class people where it is dollar spec. The idea is you can run anything as long as you spend no more than $2,500 (don't remember the actual amount) on the whole car. After a race, ANYONE can look at your car and if they call bs you have to trade with them. Interesting idea.

As far as I can tell for the most of the real world in racing, it effectively comes down to a test of hardware because the drivers for the most part are so good, the winning margins are going to come from equipment. This certainly seems to be the case in F1 where a recent dominating champion can move to another team and quickly be down the leader board.

probably not a package, but that car does it NA, likely through a very roudy cam and head work, still i would imagine even if that was a fully loaded Z06 at 98k it wouldnt be 50k deep into the engine for those speeds

(Fastest street GTR is the AMS Alpha 10, which is a $64,000 package on top of your 90k GTR. which runs low 9s, last I had heard, and does not do so on pump gas. )
Meet the Alpha 12.

The Z is on 93 octane which is NOT standard pump gas in CA and many other states, plus it has a Meth Kit further effectively raising resistance to detonation. It has a huge cam and open exhaust, and possibly though it doesn't say a higher stall converter. That doesn't sound like that much fun to drive much on the street. It also has to do a burnout on drag radials. The GT-R rolls up and launches. See how this goes?

Plus the trans work and suspension. There is no way stock parts are going to even come slose to handling that.

Another reason I'd take a GTR over a Vette is that so many people have Vettes now. You rarely see GTRs running around.

Boost, because sometimes atmospheric pressure just isn't enough.

Stock block would easily handle that, and its no new thing to see stock a beefed up IRS do 8's, hell they were doing that in the C5 vettes.

Of course i'll have no where near enough money to own a C6Z for a long time but a very basic break down doesnt put it near the cost you're talking about

I just think the gtr is fucking ugly, i see them more than vettes now a days too, there are 4 within a 3 mile radius of my girlfriends house and i see them EVERYDAY on the way home from my girlfriends house

That Vette isn't n/a, it has a A&A blower on it.

Oh and my price guess was buying the Z06 and then making it run 8s.
