The oil still looks clean... Do you think a compression test would tell me anything?
No, I'm thinking this way--was your block decked? If so how much? You just took a little more off the heads too, Right?

Yeah, took .004 off the heads. Block has never been decked to my knowledge. Why? What are you thinking?

And should my overflow tank be... overflowing if the cylinder was leaking pressure?

I'm thinking intake to head aligment. But since it isn't decked there should not be a problem. The heads only got .004 and the intake has never been shaved you should be ok. If you have cylinder pressure leaking into the water then the pressure builds VERY quickly. Could just be shitty gaskets.

Thanks!

Well I'm going to try and put 25 ft lbs on them first, remember they are extra thick gaskets. Then I'll try the Edlebrock gaskets. Cross your digits for me.

Going to work on it later today when it's not 220 degrees outside.

Brought it up to 23 ft lbs, and it's now sealing. It feels like I'm putting a lot more than 23 ft lbs on otherwise I'd go higher, I don't trust that Craftsman torque wrench on an aluminum head.

I bought one of those stethoscopes to track the tick tick, can't find it. Don't hear anything peculiar holding over the rockers... so? I don't know, guess it's an exhaust leak. Anyone want to come over and lend an ear? I sure as hell can't find where it's coming from. My car is so freaking loud its hard to track one specific noise down.

The car has a rough spot in the low rpm band. I'm worried that it could have to do with the tick, lifter adjustment? HG? Intake leak? But I do have lower compression and a lot more lift, and my fuel level is way low for some reason all of a sudden. So I'll spend some time tuning it before I draw any radical conclusions.

Another strange thing that I noticed, the idle comes down slowly. It's never done that before. What does that indicate? Anyone know? Glenn?

You can have your Torque wrench calibrated. You should also NEVER store it with a torque setting; it should always be 0 lbs when not in use. You may think you're overtorquing, but remember thats a clamping force, if something soft-ish like a gasket is compressing you'll think you're putting in more force than you are.
