I am willing to help out on all aspects of the build: wrench, drive, $$. I have never raced but it would be fun and I got to get experience somehow.

I'll put you down. One thing is that now that there's a track out in the IE running every Tuesday night, we could use it fairly often for yucking about and getting some seat time.

Adams track would be great experience because it is somewhat technical like Buttonwillow is. However, the speeds are much greater at Buttonwillow.

Recommended 4-6 drivers. We had 3 for sure, not sure if Shaolin Crane wanted to drive or not, but you're in if you want it.

I am down. I can definitely help with the build, and as long as schedule works out I would love to drive too. I can't promise that I'll be available all the time, but I'll see what I can do. My schedule yearly next year might get very hectic depending how my work situation hopefully progresses, but as long as I have some free time, I love working on cars.
Might I suggest a Miata as the car? I know that many of the guys on here are Domestic type guys, but the Miata is a heck of a platform to start with. Plus they are light which makes them especially easy of tires and brakes which is important in an endurance race where your goal is to not change tires of brakes. Plus there are tons of super cheap aftermarket parts. I know that with a $500 budget you are not going to be able to get many things, but there isn't much it needs at that competition level. Plus I have an extra diff should it need one.

I completely agree with excellence of the Miata platform, particularly for handling, average corner speeds, mpg, preservation of brakes and tires, etc.. My wife's car is an 06 MX-5 and it's the best handling car I've driven for sure. For this go around, it's a matter of the availability of parts at near zero cost, knowledge within the group, and driver type/skill that makes the Fox a pretty easy (hopefully correct) choice for this kind of endurance race. Our other project car is an RX-7 (with blown SBF) and if Allah is willing, I'd like to do all kinds of other project cars in the coming years.
Although I just had a crazy idea for Motorgen Fox vs. Miata at the 24 Hour of Lemons. Mmmm....

The fox is a great platform, the 5.0 is dead reliable, i put 100 miles on my engine getting home with no coolant, 2 cracked head, broken piston ring, cracked piston, and a puked rear main seal.

When somebody says something nice about another platform, it's not a dis against the Fox.
