Sorry to hear about that Guy. What's the game plan for the cage? They have pre-bent cages that just require welding?
We basically need ~$300 to finish the motor?

Jegster cages are around $175 and just require welding. We need $300 for just the heads, so ~$450 to finish the engine

I think Ron built the cage to project RX-7 so we may get away for less than $175. Unless the extra effort is not worth the savings. Also, does the motor run now or not? Finally, what is the other $150 for the motor going?

Various gaskets, rockers, plugs etc. High ballpark but figure we'll spend around that.

I believe the cage has to be DOM and not ERW. Most prebent kits are made of ERW. If there is a kit that is made of DOM that would save a ton of time in building the cage. We had a about 3 hours into measuring and bending the main hoop for RxSnake.
**Edit**
They allow ERW so most kits made of 1.75 x .120 (or thicker) will work.

You don't need DOM but if you don't use it you need to size up the tube.
I have a bender for .120 wall DOM 1 5/8

1.625 isn't going to be large enough. The rules state that the cage has to be a minimum of 1.750 x .120 if the race weight is 3000lbs or up. I think the car will end up over 3000 with fuel and driver.
My buddy Joe has everything we need to build the cage, plasma cutter, hydraulic tube bender with various dies, notcher, etc.

Well that works, I mainly just got the bender for my trucks roll cage.

I will review the rules and see if I can find a pre bent cage. Does the motor work now? How much are we buying in with these upgrades. Are the heads done and we are buying them or are they working the current heads? 300hp is good for a cmc car.

It came out of a running vehicle so I assume so if completed at a minimum (alternator, fw, ?)

NECESSARY
Base engine $100 (Purchased)
FW necessary regardless $75~ (Not Purchased)
Alt and other bits are "free" from Guy.
Plugs, wires, gaskets $? (Not Purchased)
UPGRADES
Heads $300 (Not Purchased)
Cam and lifters $110 (Purchased)

Yes. The current engine just as the ancient stock heads. These heads are complete and available for $300.

What's cmc?
For those of you who can add, ain't no way this is coming in at $500, it's just a matter of how much over $500 depending on what we can get for interior and stuff. But it will be (theoretically) a dead simple, reliable, 300whp 3,000~lbs Fox. This is not necessarily a deal breaker because they just assess a handicap for cost over $500 and we won't necessarily be way over $500 . . .
I really hope somebody can make it to the recon mission. I'd be very curious to get a gauge on what the real average level is. Showing up with something that sticks out too much on performance is a great plan for getting sent to the crusher.
