Default Testament to Chrysler's Product Reliability

1995 Dodge Neon purchased at 82K miles. Tuned up with new plugs, filter, PCV and hose, Mobil 1 syn and Redline MTL.

82K miles - Spark plug wires arcing, replaced with MSD wires.
84K miles - Shifter bushing failure at the trans.
86K miles - Timing belt pulley failure, timing belt failure. Valves & guides replaced and lapped, heads resurfaced, Fel Pro MLS HG, new Good Year timing belt and idler pulleys.
86K miles - Window regulator cracked, repaired.
87K miles - Shifter bushing failure at the shifter.
87K miles - Manual transaxle failure, replaced with 97 SOHC trans.
89K miles - AC system failure, serviced.
90K miles - Speedo gear fell off inside of transmission, speedometer failure.
91K miles ??? (No way to tell) - Shifter cable failure.
91K miles ??? - AC system failure, serviced.
92K miles ??? - Starter and solenoid failure, replaced.
92K miles ??? - Trans strut failure.
92K miles ??? - Breather hose cracked, replaced.
94K miles ??? - Overheating issues - Replaced thermostat with a 180, flushed system.
94K miles ??? - AC system failure.
94K miles ??? - Idle issues. Cleaned throttle body.
95K miles ??? - Starter wire failing, arcing.
95K miles ??? - Durable HIGH PRESSURE PLASTIC fuel fitting failure, SPRAYS GAS ALL OVER HOT ENGINE WITH A NICE FINE MIST... Finals, no time for Dodge. Time to rely on my 32 year old Chevrolet.

But hey, it was smooth sailing for almost 2K miles at some points.

So while I've got you FI guys in here, is there a rubber o ring at the end of the snap in fuel line that plugs into the fuel log?

There should be 2 o-rings in the female end of the quick release fitting.

My 2003 dodge ram had a new thermostat at 45K.New brakes and tires at 55K. 65K it got a new water pump nad I have to service the steering rack. New o2 sensors at 80K. Right now the it needs 1 new electric window switch and a exhaust leak fixed. I'm pleased overall. I could compare this to my corvette, but that would not be fair.

My 2000 Dodge dakota I bought new. I have had to change the water pump, Fan Clutch, O2 sensors, and also went in for warranty service for the brake distribution block that was leaking. That's it besides usual maintenance stuff. Now has 128k on it. My 1987 dakota before it, that I also bought new had the same replacements except for brake distribution block. I had it until I got transmission problems at 187k. Not a bad run though for a truck that had a lot of towing miles on it. Overall I have had good luck with dodge (trucks anyway).

Realistically, these Dodge truck stories aren't horror stories like mine but they're not exactly reliable exceptions either. And both of them had water pump failures.

Brake distribution block? Steering rack serviced? Before 100K miles... not exactly reliable.

Well, my water pump didn't stop working. It was leaking through the weep hole. I went to Iraq and let my sister use my truck while I was gone. She took it to a mechanic to make sure it was ready for when I returned. Needless to say a bunch of expensive shit got done that I paid for. I didn't find out until after the fact. That accounted for the steering rack water pump and o2 sensors. I will admit I don't think it's the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned if I take small annoyances into consideration. But everything else I drive I bet the shit out of. I'm looking at replacing the truck later this year when the vette is paid off. I will say EVERY car manufacture has there shitboxes. Lexus GS series = shit for reliability. BMW 7 series electronic shit storms. Everything from Mercedes Benz between 2000-2005. VW toureg is one of the worst cars (as far as reliability) sold in the US.

110,000 miles and both front hubs need to be replaced on a Ram 1500.
