Default File fit rings vs ???

Don't know much about rings, but I do not that when I install them I don't want to futz with them. Can I buy rings that don't need to be filed to fit? Just want to slide, drop, tap and go.

BTW, looks like the hot shit for boosted apps are the SpitFire Speed Pro rings. So I'm going with those unless someone objects.

Any thoughts on gaps while I have yall in here?

Unfortunately, if you want the gaps just right, you'll need to file fit.

Check with the manufacturer for their recommendation. They all recommend something different. Also let them know that you are running a supercharger because they will recommond a different gap for it then say for a N/A engine.

I know for a blown SBF SRP recommends .022for the top ring and .028 for the second.

It's always better to be a little loose, then too tight.

Is the greater danger of too tight related to the increased friction -> heat -> fusing to the cylinder walls? I would have thought the blow by of too loose could be a real danger in a real hurry, especially with a "blown" app. . .

I would think more like, expanding without enough room and cracking/ disintegrating.

Yes, too tight and the rings butt, then it just breaks everything up REAL BAD.

Blow by is not an issue if you stay with in spec. A couple thous bigger is not going to change anything. My top ring is at .028 and when cold I still don't have blow by. Remember, you have two rings.

If this bothers you, go with gapless rings.

Also, is it only ever the gap that needs to be filed? Do the ring edges themselves ever need to be trimmed?
