I really think this site would get more hits if the RSS feed was turned way down. With smart phones, Im sure most people are browsing with tapatalk, and there is just no way to drop in and see new non-rss posts.
You can look at all new/ unread (which is all rss) or participated, which doesnt really promote participation in new threads.
