Default 2013 Chevrolet Corvette (C7) – Feature

25 Cars Worth Waiting For. The pace and frequency of change to this most heroic of all Chevrolets can be charitably described as glacial, and our assessments of the changes, when they finally occur, don’t always jibe with the perceptions of the designers, builders, marketeers, and flacks. Looks just like a C&D slight imaginging from the closest thing to concept C7 there is, which was just a movie car. AFAIK the real C7 is still a mystery. About the only likely things are a smaller displacement, direct injection and maybe forced induction. Possibly a very slightly smaller footprint (though larger than the Kappa platform). Overall design concept won't likely deviate so much from the C6 I don't think. GM is naturally concerned with younger buyers, but they know their Vette demographic, and with some exception, it's still middle aged and up.

Remeber this from the 2009 Auto Show.

Yea, not really feelin it, but by no means is that official. Both those designs are far too extreme to be mass produced, but, of course, I'm eager to see what they decide.

The base engine is going to be a 5.5L V8 with HP relatively equlivalent tothe current LS3.

Not sure about the Z06 engine, but I believe the LS9 is slated to soldier on and power the ZR1 version of the C7. I'd imagine they'll up the boost a little bit. 700hp seems like a nice round number

From what i understand the 5.5 was just a race motor (a de-stroked ls7)

They will most likely keep it around 6 litters but put out about 450hp or so with much better mpg with some DI and VVT.

If you can retrofit some new DI heads to older LSx then they would sell like hot cakes.

And I hope they turn the z06 back into a 6 speed only car

Basically every report I see from engineers to magazines have indicated it will be a 5.5

i had also heard 5.5 DI engine in the base vette, from multiple sources, fwiw

Also, since when can you get a Z06 in anything but a 6 speed? Where'd you see that?
