Default Maintenance on the Truck and the SUV. Help!

Ok so I dropped the Truck off at the service station to get my free alignment and just asked them to do a once over on the truck.

Stuff I can handle
  • replace belts/hoses
  • new rear drums
  • clean air filter
  • new rear diff fluid
  • flush coolant

Stuff I need help with...
  • front ball joints need to be replaced which I knew. Is this something that can easily be done in a driveway? Is it that hard to press out the old ones and press in the new ones. I figure while I an doing this work I would throw on my new 3" arm lift and replace the lower a-arm bushing as well.
  • replace brake fluid. anyone got a bleeder?

Now the tough stuff.
Shannon's brake light was coming on briefly when we either braked hard or accelerated moderately so she dropped if off at the dealer. They saw the brake fluid was low and filled it and problem solved except they found a slight leak from the lower ABS valve. They wanted $1,500 to replace it ($800 parts and $700 labor). Is this something that I can tackle myself (or with help, wink-wink)? She is really not looking forward to dropping $1,500 on her Hyundia.

any help guys?

Ball joints are easy. I just did the drivers side on the Explorer but I had to rent the tool from Autozone. However, this was on the Dana 30 so it's a little different.

I don't know anything about the Hyundia's braking system but have you checked the fittings to see if that is where the leak is coming from? I'm assuming they are saying that the ABS pump is bad and is what is leaking?

Get in the zone, and rent this.

I've done it a lot. This is the best tool for the job. Won't bend the stud, won't slip off constantly, won't tear up your grease covers like a pickle fork.

Not sure how yours remove from the arm. Mine had to be drilled out. New ones came with bolts instead of rivets.

You have a gf, that's your bleeder.

Postscript - Why are you doing maintenance on a truck that you intend to sell?

Getting the F-250 is not a definite yet. I am looking and if the right deal comes up the great but if not then I will stick with the F-150. If I might have this for a number of months then there are some things I would like to fix. Would help sell the truck anyway.

They said it was leaking at the ABS Valve. That is it. I have not had a chance to look at it yet. I will get in there this weekend and have a look. Maybe even post pics depending on what I find.

The bleeding of the brakes will require a scan tool able to activate the abs pump and valves.
