The BIG surprise for those of you with kids will come on your California return. For TY 2009 the dependent exemption has been slashed from $309 per dependent in TY 2008 to $98. That's right, a bottom line tax increase of $211 for EVERY dependent on your return. Betcha didn't hear about THAT thru the media. I've already prepared 5 families that would have received a small state refund in '09 but somehow have to come up with $500+ to pay the state this year
