A person who is merely banned learns nothing (if there was anything to learn) and probably goes on being a douche bag, or gets even worse down the line. Someone who is "shunned" and knows it, *might* ask themselves why it happened and voluntarily modify their behaviour over time to be less douche baggy.

Anyway, for me, simple douche baggery isn't nearly enough to ban. You'd have to be a psyco bastard before I'd even begin to consider it. Of course I ban out right scamming, bots and the like. I'm not so open minded that my brains fall out so to speak.
