There actually wasn't any contact. The problem is that the Puegot pushed the Vette off its line and upset the GT chassis, which is FAR less forgiving to sudden moves than the prototypes are. The F1 boys are damned careful about contact because they're open wheelers. Tire to tire is a disaster for everybody. They also have a culture of no-contact (opposite of NASCAR).
