Its actually very functional but yes at higher speeds/turns.
There is a whole tech packet on the aero of the Evo X there is actually a lot of engineering that went into these cars. (Trying to find the link)
On our track car we picked up 2 seconds from the stock wing to a APR one as well
You are right about the drag in the straight line but these things are made for the turns
