Great info, but a 20 gallons 2hp compressor from DeWalt, Husky, etc... will last and support painting, air tools, and tires. A 5-8 hp 200-300 gallon unit is nice if you have the space/electrical, but not necessary. Most of us are working out a a garage not a shop. Honestly most of my tools are cordless. I don't like dragging the hose around and it makes things 100 time easier at the track.
