Default Report: 2,100 gallons of gas stolen from Indiana BP station... all at once

To steal 2,100 gallons of gasoline, you'll need a really big tank and story that's at least somewhat believable. Someone in Hammond, Indiana apparently had both.

A clerk at a Hammond BP station says a tanker driver's story about checking the station's tank levels sounded legit, especially since BP has had contamination problems in the area recently. According to the Associated Press, the station's manager noted that it wasn't unusual for a BP tanker to remove fuel from the station's tanks, but not at all normal for the tanker to leave without replacing the fuel.

Police estimate the value of the gasoline at about $8,500. Two other gas outlets in Hammond have been the victims of "pump tampering" recently, with the theft of about 350 gallons of fuel by several different vehicles.
