Safe way to put a car on blocks?
 

Oky doky, I remember reading something to the effect of, "don't put a car on blocks." It's not safe. Kinda makes sense becuse the contact point is as wide as the base. But tall jack stands (say truck type, 30") are kinda expensive. Is there a time tested safe way to get a car way up in the air safely and cost effectively.

Yeah, I guess I need to. I was actually looking for cheaper than that. I still think a full set is $100. But what the hey, $100 is worth not being crushed to death. . .

I have two truck style one you can barrow. I got them from my dad when he closed his repair shop. I used them on the Explorer when I did the solid axle swap. You'll just have to find two more.

Thanks brother. I actually went to Harbor Freight tonight to return something and took another look. I was mistaken The giant 12 ton stands were like $70/pair, but the 6 ton stands were like $25, so I got two pair. We can safely put it up 24". I also got a hammer and dolly set for shits and giggles.

You probably did read that someplace. Cinder blocks are not very tough. If they roll a little bit with any kind of load they just crack apart. Good move on the stands. If you have to use blocks, Oak 4x4's or bigger works well if you stack them in squares and secure them together. Not my recommendation, and I'm not getting under it, but it might work.
