No Cats

Who's running no cats? I'm seriously considering buying a catless DP just to bolt up my exhaust. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with involved fees if caught and whether or not you've had any trouble with cops so far... Please share.

Joe, please post up in here!! Your car is crazy loud and I want to know if you've been given any trouble yet..

I believe the fine is 5k per missing cat? I could be wrong though. I personally don't think it's worth it...

If you are stopped for any reason & the police find any illegal modifications; they can nail you for 2K per violation. I do have a suggestion though.... I took a catted aftermarket pipe that had a bad(rattling) cat, knocked out the honeycomb material, & bolted it back up on the car. Worst case if stopped & the cop notices the fuel smell? You get a fix-it ticket since you can tell him it does have a cat, see officer? ;) IMHO.....

This is what my brother did for his Turbo Buick, it works great

The thing about gutted cats is you leave this giant open space in your exhaust kinda like a bubble that can create a sort of "back pressure." It's not smooth anymore but I would imagine at higher velocity's it maybe has no effect anyways. Not good for boosted cars I would say. I gutted mine then shoved a 3" pipe in it so it was still a straight through pipe but with a catalytic converter jacket covering it if you will

I got pulled over twice because the cops thought I was taking off really fast when I was merging into traffic. It sounded like I was going alot faster than I was. I pulled over each time and immediately shut off the engine. Each time I got warned to slow it down and I waited until the cop was back in his car before I started it back up.

So I had some resonators installed. It's much quieter now. I can't have cats as long as I run my 2 step. That's why I got rid of them. The 2 step dumps unburned fuel into the exhaust and it plugged them up. I doubt seriously if any cop is gonna look under my car. He'd need a jack or a hoist anyway, as low as it sits. I had to get a low profile jack just so I could change my tires.

If they're really suspicious I think they can send you to the ref for verification.

Joe, the thing you are overlooking here is Tyler is a "punk kid" that drives a "ricer" car. That might be enough for some cops to take closer looks at things or just give him a hard time.

hmph for a "punk kid" in a "ricer" car I still haven't been pulled over in the SRT yet. Even when I had my "ricer" integra and did get pulled over was never given a hard time.. I know how to respect the officer who's doing his job, and never got asked to pop my hood, about my mods, or to slow it down. One guy did ask about my car, we talked about going to D1 lol.

Hopefully I won't get pulled over in the SRT.

Besides, Joe.. your car is STUPID loud. I love it. Mine just pops and gurgles and rumbles. Interesting enough to some cops. I've had cops literally ride my bumper, bikes and cars, check out my drop and exhaust, and then drive off. Lucky so far. :D

And Leedom... when I get my car track ready again lets go... I been dyin to run ya :smack: All this smack talkin is getting me excited.
