Since the format change

Since you guys changed the format (layout) I've noticed (what looks like) a decline in posts.

Am I right or not?

Yes. But it seems to be a pure function of overall traffic. In other words, at least for now, I'd relate it more to traffic than to format. I'm usually a very atomic thinker, I love lots of precise divisions, but enkei made a good point. Until and unless we get some fairly heavy volume of traffic and posts, it was too refined.

More than anything, we've got to find a way to build up the initial traffic to the site in the first place. I'm hoping that once the project car is complete and goes on the road here and there, that it will help. Also need to investigate some other "marketing" possibilities because what we've been doing so far ain't getting it done good enough. I'm just talking about getting people to the site in the first place. The cast of regulars here are a great group and Sean and I still believe very much in the basic idea of Motorgen. We gotta just keep mixing it up and building til we hit that winning combination. It'll be even more funner when we do.

I think you're probably onto something with the women

Did you guys save the old code if you decide to change it back?

It could be changed, but I honestly prefer the new layout. Traffic seems to be down everywhere though (not just our site).

Yes, thereare backups of the database. However, because new content is being added all the time, I could only use it as a guide for reconstructing the forums. This would be pretty damn low on my list. Like I said, the actual traffic has been lower since the change, so I don't think fewer posts has anything to do with the format. I kinda like it for its simplicity, and more than few times have people said something to the effect of ,"wow, there's so much stuff, I don't know where to put anything." The funny thing is I think we're about as simple and straight forward as it gets compared to other auto community sites, relative to the features we have. We have a basic marketing and critical mass challenge more than anything. Also, there's definitely some beautification and refinement that needs to be done, but we aren't exactly a cash rich operation. :smack:

I'll be sure to mail you some head shots.

Finals season is here for me, & a good percentage of online trash talkers are college kids. Just a thought.

I'm thinking to Break Domestic and Imports into. This bit would be somewhat like what we had.

Domestic
European
Asian
